SLICE during sea trials

Navatek  Ltd. teamed with Lockheed Martin to research and test a fast SWATH hull form variant developed by Lockheed Martin called SLICE. Navatek and Lockheed Martin received an Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) grant from the U.S. Office of Naval Research to design and build a 30-knot, 105-foot SLICE prototype to test the SLICE concept. The SLICE prototype vessel was built at Navatek’s sister company in Hawaii, Pacific Shipyards International, and launched in November 1996, undergoing successful sea trials in early 1997. Lockheed Martin subsequently built and delivered in 2006 two SLICE offshore oil crew vessels for service with Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Mexico’s national oil company.
